The final day at the Crowley Classic starts with a fifth place game between the ladies from Matanuska Christian and Cornerstone. The Cornerstone Spartans are led by Rhonda Greeno and Kelsie McGraw. The Eagles are led by captain Rachel Smith, but will have to play without co-captain Katie Statz, as only five Eagles were able to make the trip today. Both teams are looking for their first win and a fifth place finish.

Kandace Carroll will try to lead her Fort Yukon Eagles to a finals appearance tomorrow and cement her M.V.P. candidacy in the day’s third girls game. Cornerstone will play their second game against a ladies powerhouse and a premier female player. Earlier today Cornerstone was undone by Haley Tyler’s 23 point performance in a first round 50-25 loss to Nenana.

The Crowley Classic kicks off its second day with a match up between the Nenana Lady Lynx and Cornerstone’s Lady Spartans. Nenana is coming off of a close loss to Fort Yukon. Haley Tyler led the Lynx effort with 26 points in Nenana’s first game, a 42-34 loss to a strong Fort Yukon team. This is Cornerstone’s first game off the Crowley Classic and first of two on the day. Cornerstone played the Rams in Susitna Valley on Tuesday. Darla Soulak and Abby Finch led the Spartan’s effort in the loss with nine points apiece.

The Susitna Valley Rams boys and girls teams were back on their home floor again this evening. Both Rams teams played three games apiece at the Nenana Invitational Tournament this past weekend. The Lady Rams suffered two defeats after a first round victory over Tok. The Rams were looking to return to winning ways with a matchup against the Cornerstone Spartans. This could be a preview of a possible matchup at this weekend’s Crowley Classic Tournament, which will be held at Susitna Valley Junior/Senior High School.
