The Kenny Lake Hawks try to recover from an upset of sorts, a second round loss to the #3 seed Walter Northway Warriors. Eli Morse has led the Hawks efforts with 15 points in their opening round win over Tok, and 20 points in yesterday’s loss. The Wasilla Lake Rams topped Anderson with a 17 point outburst from Jackson Wilder. Josh Grissom and Taylor Roth posted 12 points apiece in the Rams first round 50-45 loss to Effie Kokrine. The Hawks and Rams need a win to stay alive in the 2010 Central Interior Conference Tournament.

The final game of the day matches the Conference and home town favorite Tri-Valley Viking Warriors against the #4 seed Effie Kokrine Warriors. Leo Huntington and Darren Silas fueled Effie Kokrine’s 50-45 win over the Wasilla Lake Rams with 18 and 12 points respectively. All twelve Viking Warrior player scored in Tri-Valley’s opening round win over Anderson. Sterling Shreeve led the way with 14 points and Steven DeCoeur added 13. The winner of this game advances to play the undefeated Northway Warriors tomorrow at 4:45 pm.
Caleb Helkenn, Eli Morse and Dominique Bell try to lead the #2 seed Kenny Lake Hawks past the #3 seed Northway Warriors. The Warriors used a balanced attack to defeat Birchwood 57-40 in the opening round. Brandon Teasdale scored 15, Todd Demit 14, Chad Albert 11, and Daniel Thomas 11 in the victory.

The Birchwood Warriors and Tok Wolverines will look to avoid elimination as they each play their second game of the tournament. Larry Mark Jr. led the Wolverines with 10 points in last night’s 46-27 loss to the Kenny Lake Hawks. Brandon Roscovius played a solid game for Birchwood in last night’s 57-40 loss to Northway. Roscovius led his team in rebounds and scored 16 points in the loss.
The Anderson Grizzlies and Wasilla Lake Rams teams both have their backs against the wall. The Grizzlies suffered a lopsided defeat at the hands of the host and #1 seeded Tri-Valley Viking Warriors. Wasilla Lake dropped a tough one to Effie Kokrine. Taylor Roth led the Wasilla Lake squad to an early 7-0 lead and a one point halftime lead, but Leo Huntington and Darren Silas turned in strong second halves to push the Warriors to a come from behind 50-45 victory. Huntington led all scorers with 18 points, Silas added 12 for the Warriors. Roth and Josh Grissom each scored 12 for the Rams.
The Tri-Valley Viking Warriors are not only hosting the Central Interior Conference Tournament, they enter as the #1 seed. The Viking Warriors finished their regular season at 20-1, and were undefeated in conference play. Tonight they start their effort to put last year’s second place finish at the conference tournament behind them. In the opening round they match up against the Anderson Grizzlies, the conference’s eighth seed.

Susitna Valley Rams
The Susitna Valley Gentlemen Rams play their final game of the season. The Lumen Christi Arch Angels come to Susitna Valley for the first time this year. The two teams met in Anchorage at the end of January. Bill Kelly led the Rams to a 46-45 victory with 18 points, and Paxson Matthews scored the winning point with 10.2 seconds to play. Seth Bakic led the Arch Angels with 14 points. Ted Sturgeluski sparked the Arch Angels’ fast start with 8 first quarter points, but foul trouble and a focused defensive effort from the Rams kept Sturgeluski scoreless over the remainder of the game.
