The Tri-Valley Lady Viking Warriors carried momentum from a strong opening round win over Tok into their second round game against the #1 seed Walter Northway Lady Warriors. However, after a strong first half against Northway, the Lady Vikings were stopped cold. The Lady Wolverines look to rebound from a tough 2 point loss to the # 3 seed Kenny Lake Lady Hawks in their opening round game. Danielle Rauch and Tori Cronk led the Wolverines attack with 10 points apiece. After a 16 point outburst in the Vikings first game, Hannah Keith was held to 6 in game two. Windy Gore led the Viking Warriors with 10 points in their second round loss. Day three of the Central Interior Conference Tournament gets started with the Tok Wolverines against the Tri-Valley Viking Warriors.

Closing Ceremony
One of the things that makes the Nenana Invitational Tournament so special is their Closing Ceremony. The host school invites all of the athletes out onto the floor to be celebrated. The All-Tournament Teams are lined up in front of all who played. The Top Three teams in each bracket are brought to center court to be congratulated and photographed. The games are exciting, but this ceremony tops them all.
The Tournament M.V.P. is a man named Dean Overby, which, if you think about it, is a perfect name for a career in Education. Dean Overby has coordinated twenty or more Nenana Invitational Tournaments. He’s been at it long enough to see the participation of the daughters and sons of fathers and mothers who have played in the Tournament. Thank you Dean for another great tournament.
The Parks Highway was home to so much high quality amateur athletics, that I don’t know where to start a recap. How about hockey.
The Greatland Conference held its Regional Qualifier this weekend. Four teams qualified for State. Hutchinson had already qualified by virtue of its flawless regular season performance, but six schools were in action looking to join the Hutchison squad next weekend. The high seeds reigned at the Qualifier. Delta Junction snuck by Kenny Lake with a 3-2 victory. Tri-Valley bested Susitna Valley with an 8-0 win. Or was it 9-0? Convincing regardless of the final score. In the final game, Monroe Catholic topped the Tok squad with an 8-0 outcome. Despite the score, I would like to congratulate the Tok team, particularly the goaltender, for their effort. With the game already decided, the Tok team clearly played the final minutes with every ounce of their energy in homage to their parents and supporters. Inspiring. Cheers to all the athletes and families.
All Conference Team (Greatland)
Kaz Cismowski, the Regions’ MVP is on the far left. On his left shoulder is Dakota MacIver, the goaltender that delivered yet another shutout in the Qualifier. Please notice Susitna Valley’s All Conference Team member, Corey Ambrose, in the center. Good luck to all the qualifying teams, and congratulations to the players pictured above for their accomplishments.

The Susitna Valley Rams boys and girls basketball teams are in Nenana competing in a three day tournament. Both teams have already played today, and Woo-Hoo, they both won. The Lady Rams defeated Tok 29-22, and the Gentleman Rams defeated Tok 53-43. The Ladies play tomorrow at 3:30 pm and the Gentlemen play at 5:00. Because of the conflict between the basketball tournament and the hockey regional qualifier, and a personal conflict to boot, TALKEETNA famous will only be able to bring you the final day of action, Saturday, from Nenana. As mentioned in a previous post, the Rams hockey team plays on Friday at 5:15 pm.
