Nenana Invitational Tournament
Feb 8th, 2010 by Lao
Closing Ceremony

Closing Ceremony

One of the things that makes the Nenana Invitational Tournament so special is their Closing Ceremony. The host school invites all of the athletes out onto the floor to be celebrated. The All-Tournament Teams are lined up in front of all who played. The Top Three teams in each bracket are brought to center court to be congratulated and photographed. The games are exciting, but this ceremony tops them all.

The Tournament M.V.P. is a man named Dean Overby, which, if you think about it, is a perfect name for a career in Education. Dean Overby has coordinated twenty or more Nenana Invitational Tournaments. He’s been at it long enough to see the participation of the daughters and sons of fathers and mothers who have played in the Tournament. Thank you Dean for another great tournament.

Nenana Invitational Tournament update
Feb 5th, 2010 by Lao

After a doubly sweet day of play in Nenana yesterday, the Susitna Valley Rams had a doubly sour day in Nenana today. The Huslia Huslers upended the Lady Rams 31-19. This was a second chance for the Lady Rams, who lost a close one to Huslia at the Tri-Valley invitational. Speaking of Tri-Valley, the Viking Warriors boys basketball team was playing the Rams in Nenana at the same time that the two schools’ hockey teams faced off in Fairbanks. The matchup between Tri-Valley’s and Susitna Valley’s boys basketball teams was heavily anticipated as the teams never met in the Tri-Valley tournament. The Rams placed second in that tournament, the Viking Warriors third. In today’s action Tri-Valley bested Susitna Valley with a nine point win that puts the Viking Warriors in the Ship. The Rams will play for third tomorrow at 5:00 pm. The Lady Rams will play for third at 3:30 pm. TALKEETNA famous will cover both games.
